In a recent interview withGamingBolt, Laura Ripoll, producer and designer at Endflame, revealed several details about the combat system in the upcoming first-person horror game Ikai. The psychological horror game based on Japanese folklore will not feature any sort of combat.

Ikai will not involve direct combat, instead, it will feature a tool to purify evil yokai. According to the developers, the first-person horror game will have aSeal Drawingmechanic, which is a double-edged mechanic. The Seal is the only item that can defeat evil, however, drawing a Seal requires precise movement instead of simply pressing a button.

The true feeling of powerlessness is achieved by eliminating direct combat mechanics in a horror game, which Ikai developers have planned for fans. Players will be vulnerable while Drawing Seals, as their peripheral vision will be completely blocked. The choice is up to the player to complete the Seal or check around for incoming threats.

The game will only feature a few simple mechanics so that players can master them easily. The Seal Drawing has to be completed to defeat the evil creatures. Thus, covert movement, strategic positioning, and cautious exploration will be the key to progress in a psychological horror game like Ikai.
