As with any game supported for many years, players will wish for the ability to change their in-game name as times and interests change. Fans of Destiny 2 have been unable to do this ever since they linked all player accounts with a Bungie ID. However, Bungie is finally allowing players to change their names one time.
Destiny 2 has become one of the largest MMOs on the market, and the release of their newest expansion only helped to bring more players online. Now with so many players returning to the game after a while, many fans have found they no longer like the name they chose for their Bungie ID. After many cries from the community, Bungie has decided togive players a one-time name change that they can use on their Bungie ID.

The announcement was madein a tweetfrom the official Bungie Twitter account.
Tomorrow, a one-time name change will become available for all players to update their Bungie name by logging in tohttps://t.co/nxcJOWfbTG.This one-time name change will become available after Hotfix 4.0.0.3 goes live tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM PST (1700 UTC).pic.twitter.com/L49sYQMMhH
The announcement is met with high praise, especially from console players. When Bungie instituted the Bungie ID, players on Xbox and PlayStation had their Bungie ID automatically set to whatever their Gamertag was at the time. This will allow console players tomake their Destiny 2 name something other than what their Gamertag issimilar to how Call of Duty uses an Activision ID.
Players interested in changing their name can do so on Bungie’s website starting at 9 am PT on June 17, 2025.
